The late Laura Branigan did indeed have the big hit in 1984, but it had already been recorded earlier that same year by an Italian singer called Raf (he sung the song in English). It was not the only Italian hit that she covered - Umberto Tozzi had made Italian-language recordings of both Gloria and Ti Amo before Ms Branigan covered them.
