The Spice Girls may have a harder timer of it - they were very much of their time, and the ageing process is something that can be forgiven ina boy band, less so in a girl group.
Of course there is better music out there, and worse as well - that's what makes popular music so fascinating. If you don't like the media attention pop bands get, sidestep it - it's not hard to do.

The other day, I actually found myself thinking "I guess Take That aren't so bad". Oh, the shame. Still, I guess it's not difficult to look good next to the total and utter karaoke dross of the likes of Westlife.
Anyway, there's a new Arcade Fire album out on 5th March. That'll show 'em how it's done. ;-)

spot on Andy. Take That returned with a fine song and, by all accounts, a decent album. They've also aged very gracefully and with dignity - essentially they seem like really good blokes (perhaps not Jason, who's a little creepy).
Spice Girls would struggle more as they don't have an in-house songwriter and would be relying on whoever's available and willing.
Also agree about ageing, though not sure the Spice Girls are quite past it yet - Emma Bunton's certainly still gorgeous! (but also pregnant which would surely put a spanner in the works?)
Arcade Fire - brilliant indeed.
