My "strut" used to make me limp.(^_*)
Togo, those were the days!! Tony you still strutting??

Maybe we can hold an 'oldies' soul night and strut slowly!!

Most of the clubs I went too in my youth were in the South, either in London or the suburbs, some on the south coast too.
Some of those listed I have, over the years, played gigs in, and there are many places I didn't frequent when younger and haven't listed.
For those who live or lived down the South of England, there might be some clubs that you are familiar with, and have good memories of, hopefully.

The Cats Whiskers in Streatham ( Became Caesars nightclub in the late 80's ) Famous for being allegedly haunted by Ruth Ellis, last woman to be changed in Britain / Used as substantial fight scene in Snatch with Brad Pitt.
My favourite local nightclub:-)

Scamp's in Croydon and Sutton, The Blue Orchid Croydon, Laurels Croydon, Tiffany's Purley,
Cinatra's Croydon, The Bali Hai Streatham, Cinderella Rockerfella's Purley, The Pink Coconut Brighton, Heaven London, Billy's Soho, London, Le Beat Route Greek Street London, Lyceum, The Strand, London, The Camden Palace, London, Stringfellows, London, The Bon Bonne, Herne Hill, ( Knew members of Eighth Wonder, Patsy Kensit's 80's band, who used to gig there ) The Fridge, Brixton, ( Saw Spandau B, Sade, Depeche.Mode, Pet Shop Boys etc here Whisky a Go Go, Wardour Street,( Also known as The WAG Club ) London, Flicks, Dartford, The Canvey Island Goldmine, Epping Forest Country Club, Le Palais Hammersmith, 100 Club, Oxford Street, London, (Stones secret gig late 80's...amazing! ) Cinecitta, London, Ronnie Scott's, London, Reflex, London, Bananas, London and MANY more.....I used to club most days of the week and weekends, bar Mondays, as most shut that day.
Basically lived in them and out early hours of the morning ...find a cafe for brekkie. :-)

Thanks for your answers so far, everyone. :-)

Any more? and what was the hot dance floor filler of that time that refreshed your feet?

I used to socialise, and work as a DJ in Sammi Belles in Newcastle, Maxims in Hanley and The Place in Hanley - Sammi Belles became Maxims and Maxims became Chicos, all sadly gone now. Sammi Belles is a listed building, so it has been converted into flats, Chicos and The Place demolished. I met my wonderful wife at Maxims, she was a barmaid there.

I did go to Pips and The Factory in Manchester, and saw some great bands at The Heavy Steam Machine in Hanley, saw Cockney Rebel with Sailor supporting there.

Saw Desmond Dekker at the old Top Rank in Hanley as well - wonderful days.

My eternal regret is that I was not into Northern Soul in those days, so I missed the Top Rank, Torch, and Casino nights.

Back in July 1992 went to see Michael Jackson, who was playing at Wembley Stadium, with a few friends - got there nice and early - queued up outside for ages - got in found a great spot - support came on - think it was Rosella - she went off after 30 mins or so, then around 8:00sh a big bouncer type guy comes on stage in front of all 70,000 plus of us and says" MIchael Jackson has been taken ill on his way to the stadium - he will not be appearing here tonight!" and asked us to safely leave the stadium! - we all looked around for a few moments and thought it was a wind up so we stayed there just ALL looking at this guy on stage telling us Jacksons ill and not coming - eventually we all left well gutted and dissapointed - but in true Brit fashion went on a pub crawl and a curry to follow, so it was'nt a wasted night after all.

The gig was rescheduled for, guess when, August 23rd, which unbelievably was the day I was getting married to Mrs B, so couldn't miss it, could I?..lol....I gave ticket away to a mate for him to go instead, and so I married Mrs Bear and turned out to be a really cool day! (Should i have gone to see Jackson instead?) - hmmmm?.....made the right choice.

25th Anniversary next August....we plan a Caribbean cruise and Vegas to celebrate :-)
