I saw The Wall on video knobby and it was cr@p, yet my Dad and a few friends saw it live and thought it was fantastic. Recordings never do a live concert justice do they; they just can't recreate the same atmosphere (or acoustics, lol!).
Having said that though, I have the last live performance of WOTW on special edition DVD and played loud through the home cinema surround sound it is fab. It does give you a sense of the atmosphere in as much as a recording can.
"One of the highlights of the show, thanks to the amazing use of digital technology,is the live performance of Richard Burton. Brought back to life in the form of a ten foot high, 3D sculpted head that hovers over the stage, Richard is seen and heard re-creating his original role as George Herbert, the journalist"
The bloke who plays Nathaniel (Alexis James) is just as good as David Essex was and Justin Hayward performs his original part as does Chris Thompson. Nathaniel is played by Russell Watson and Jeff Wayne's daughter is Carrie, the journalist's fiancee. Among the effects, a 30ft martian fighting machine descends on the auditorium firing 'heat rays' at the audience.
I know it's gonna be AAAWSOME and I am sooo excited!
If you get a chance to obtain tickets knobby don't hesitate. For a WOTW fan it's not to be missed.
