It seems the easiest way nowadays is to appear on a reality TV show like Pop Idol or X factor. Otherwise keep sending your demos off to record labels and keep your fingers crossed.

Do you gig? Invite someone from a label that you think would be interested and make sure you have plenty of friends in the audience to cheer you along. A lot of labels will only sign you if you have an existing fan base.
