For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.I guess I'd better put the ignorati right - the flugelhorn is pretty well known in the jazz world because many famous trumpeters/trombonists started out playing it, and it's still brought out for solos in a good number of big band performances.
I'm not a brass player, but not for want of it. I love the sound of flugel, trumpet and cornet but just don't get on with it, which is why I stick to saxophone. But I do love listening to jazz, Tootlebug, especially big band jazz. I believe the late, great Don Lusher was something of a flugel player in addition to being a top trombonist.
