Please give me a list of appropriate popular songs to play at my daughters wedding we are making up this list ourselves and playing them through an Ipod with no DJ to back it up - we need everything from the first dance to party sets and something for all ages - I know there are some experts out there so

It depends on what music the couple like and the age groups/tastes of those attending.
I would guess a few classics from the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and 00s. Even the 50s- the Twist is still good fun after a few drinks. A bit of Grease and Dirty Dancing. Some Take That and Abba. And have some current stuff such as Black Eyed Peas

Just be sure not to play "Every Breath You Take" by The Police. Can you believe that some couples have actually had this as their first dance...? LOL!

I used to DJ and a word of advice:

I trust thousands have been spent on making your daughters day a happy one so I would spend a couple of hundred quid and hire a DJ. The reason i say this is because:

have you got a library of say 5000 songs to choose from?

How are you going to announce the first dance, dedications, get the crowd going?

Are you just plugging the IPOD into the venues system? Do you know the output of the house system? Will it be loud enough?

The reason I say this is because I used to DJ and for something as special as a wedding you need someone who can read a room and know the music to play.

I'd go with jimmycooper's advice, not having a proper DJ setup could make or break the party - you don't want to have to start repeating your tracks because you run out.

Just as a further thought by using an IPOD and MP3's the sound level can vary greatly from track to track
