 quite simply amazing probably in my top 10 bands of all time along side the likes of beatles, eagles, radiohead, led zep, GNR etc but was just wonderin why they dont seem to get mentioned much and why ony a few random ppl seem to rate them as a 'great' band. aslo wonderin why they get played on radio-tv channels but dont seem to have ne videos on the music channels?

Mark Knopfler now lives in the USA and I saw a Sky TV prog on him quite recently.  In his own words, he now "stumbles from one crisis to another", but is still involved in producing music.  Don't know why they don't show vids of Dire Straits on TV though.  Best band ever.

Dire Straits were a quality band. I got sick of hearing Walk of Life (originally a b side) and Money for Nothing. You wouldn't have thought they had released any other tracks apart from Romeo & Juliet and perhaps Private Investigations. Quality songs such as Telegraph Road, Skateaway and Brothers In Arms stand the test of time. For me it all went a bit pear shaped on the follow up to Brothers In Arms, was it called 'Calling All Stations'? I lost interest in them for a long long time. But in the last year or so I have revisited the albums Makin' Movies, Love Over Gold and Brothers In Arms (I never play Money For Nothing or Walk Of Life!!) and they are all good albums. The live album, Alchemy is a very good live album.

The video for Money For Nothing was ground breaking at the time but is horribley dated these days.

Romeo and Juliet is a TOP song, as is Sultan's of swing....

oh ok, its just that i watch alot of music channels nowadays and have seen videos from almost every other band but i've never seen a dire straits video, though i have seen them on the live aid '84 dvd where they were amazing i might add
