that starts quietly & soars to a crescendo - problem is. it needs to be a bite of about 30 secs - 1 min. PLEASE, PLEASE dont suggest Dance of the Knights by Prokofiev - The Apprentice has ruined that forever!! Any suggestions? Cheers!

What about Grieg's 'Hall of the Mountain King'

You could use this starting at about 16 seconds in...

The greatest intro in "classical" music...

Not much of a fan of Wolfie's chamber music - far too formulaic for my liking - but his requiem is simply stunning!

Check the crescendo at 30secs. as requested.

I agree with MR on the requiem.....

Ever see Amadeus, a lovely film (tragic) and this music featured heavily.....
(and music from Die Zauberflöte)

Does exactly what an Overture should do DT. Fills one with a delicious feeling of expectation- and isn't let down by what follows.
Now here is somebody that should not become a Simon Cowell protege and have the proper training.... she could be a future Catherine Jenkins.... I bet she is ruined by his "commercialisation" though.

It is emotional though......

Some great suggestions here - Wagner isn't one of my faves bt that a great choice - many thanks to all
And nobody has pointed out that a 'crescendo' is NOT a climax. The crescendo is the soaring bit. The music starts quietly and soars to a climax. 'Crescendo' means gradually getting louder.
