Got tickets to see Andre Rieu at the SECC, Glasgow next December. Long wait but it will be worth it. Also going to see La Traviata beamed live from The Met, New York in April in a local arts cinema in April. Next year is my year of culture lol.
Traditionally, Die Fledermaus is a favourite for New Year's Eve. Here there's a live broadcast from the Vienna State Opera. It's also being shown on a giant screen outside the opera house.
We are great fans of Andre Rieu & have recorded all the programmes of Sky Arts & will be recording the new ones we don't have over the next few hours. We have also bought several of his DVD's. We were so pleased when he recovered from his illness & was able to carry on as usual let's hope he now keeps fit & well.
The joy is Strauss waltzes, which are fab whoever plays them. However, André has such a connection with his orchestra and the people watching it is indeed very happiness inducing .
The concept seems so obvious yet it had never been done before, although The Three Tenors showed an aspect of it. Andre brings classical music and opera to the masses and smiles to the faces of everyone watching and listening. He is himself charismatic and a class act. In just a few years he has deservedly become one of the hottest artists on the planet. Simply splendid.
if anyone is ever feeling sad or depressed, I recommend they stick a DVD ofan Andre Rieu show on and the dark cloud will swiftly be replaced by sunshine
flip - he is a wonderful man, our favourite! Think he has taken over James Last's mantle. OH and I have been recording his shows from SkyArts all week. I agree, he must be the happiest man man around, he has such a smiley face and crinkley eyes, I would love to meet him !
DT, you can thank me for that discovery as i recall, money gratefully received.
as to the wonderful Andre Rieu, every concert i have watched, whatever he plays has been delightful.
For those who love the music, The New Years Day concert from
Vienna is on BBC2 i think around 11am, don't miss.
His music and concerts are fantanstic. However I get the feeling that I'm going to be sick when the musicians loving look at each other and take a bow when all they done was whistle.
