recording live tracks

Hi all,
I want to record a song, first paly it on the gfuitar, then play it back and use a keyboard, and record both, then add some other stuff, is there a cheap way, or a easy to use software programme, or do I need two tape recorders, or two computers, etc.
thank you all,
Percy.

This is what's known in the music industry as multi-tracking. You most certainly won't need two tape recorders or two computers - in fact, you don't NEED either of those things, but the usual way of home recording these days is via a computer, a sound card capable of receiving input and some music editing software. How are you intending to connect up the various musical instruments to the computer? What microphone do you have for recording the vocals?
Hi Mark,
I have an xlr mic, my computer does have a sound card and will record, but the problem seems to be that i need to play back the first recording whilst playing over the top of it and recording that, then pl,aying that back and playing over the top again etc. I did have an old tascam tape 4 track unit, but that didn't allow me to play back and record at the same time as it had only one tape.
thanks,
percy

Reaper: This is what I use for all my recording. Pretty much unlimited number of tracks, comes with a number of very useful plugins. The commercial version (which is identical, except for the cost of a licence) is used by some top professionals.

You'll need a decent audio interface. Something like this:
