Why does digital radio have a channel that plays ambient bird sounds?

When we are bored at work we put it on, it always cracks us up when the crow, um, crows (for soem curuious reason) so i guess we are thankful for this wierd channel, lol...

Again, why? Why a channel with biurd sounds, looped every few hours? why?

its meant as background 'noise' i guess
Maybe it's for all those people who work in those earthy fair-trade type shops who are starting to go crazy with the dolphin noises CDs and need a change!  Sounds fab though.  Oh - maybe it's to help educate city kids - you know the ones... who haven't ever seen a cow except in a zoo.  Teehee!
Before Classic FM began a few years back, they had several weeks where if you tuned in to what was going to become the Classic FM frequency, you'd hear birdsong. I believe it's really for the benefit of radio engineers, checking sound levels and other technical gubbins.

So it's not really for the benefit of listeners. That said, it's rather nice :-)
..i thought it was for lonely budgies and home alone parrots...
