I have loved this since it was introduced to me at junior school. The devil on his fiddle is stunning and so sad when day breaks and he has to go back to the grave.

Chopin Ballade No 3

Sibelius 7th Symphony. This is not for all, admittedly, unless they like bleak evocations of desolate scenery, and the mood to match, but at least it's very short for a symphony!
