As the husband of someone involved heavily in media I have a complete understanding of the issues of taking bread from mouths by free work, but the case still stands, and amateur artists are a perfectly reasonable example of what I'm talking about, or are you not aware of sites like Deviant art, red bubble etc? I think the issue that you have relates to a medium which is rapidly becoming obsolete anyway, every month another music magazine closes down because times have moved on. Aside form a few people who want to read a hard copy about Moog synthesisers useage by prog rock bands etc because they don't know how to work a computer, how many people seriously buy music mags these days, as opposed to click on one of the very many excellent websites available for free? Not many and clearly getting less everyday, or there would not be a ' problem' The thing is time marches on and we all have to make allowances for that, there are financial winners and financial losers but critiquing people's ' standard of journalism' simply because you don't like what they are doing does come off as being spiteful and sanctimonious, as a few of us have mentioned. I'd rather read a heartfelt review with a few typos than an off pat, cliche ridden list of facts by someone whose sick to death of what they do and it shows.
