If the English Baccalaureate had gone ahead, job application forms would soon have been asking "Have you obtained the English Baccalaureate or equivalent?".
To lawfully answer 'Yes', you'd need to have O-levels (at any grade), CSE (at Grade 1 only) or GCSEs (at grades A to C only) in ALL of the following 5 subjects areas:
Maths
English
A 'pure' Science subject (such as Physics, Chemistry or Biology)
A modern language
Either History or Geography.
So how many of you could lawfully answer 'Yes'. I couldn't!
No, big fail. Didn't do History or Geography. Did do Physics (which I didn't pass), Biology and Chemistry though. Oh, but grade 2 CSE in German. I am a failure :(
>>>I still reckon the only reason they dropped the ebac is because no-one can spell it
I did manage to spell it correctly without looking it up, Bednobs, but I did also look carefully to see if Firefox's spellchecker had underlined it before posting ;-)
Simple numbers are irrelevant, Society. I've got 10 O-levels and 3 A-levels (and several other qualifications, including a degree) but I still can't say that I've achieved EB level (because I've not got either History or Geography). So I'm officially a failure!
In the early '60s took and passed the old "O Levels" in
English G1
English Lit G2
Maths G1
Physics G2
History G1
Geography G2
Tech Drawing G2
A Level
English G1
Maths G1
Physic G1
Did they actually call it 'Technical Drawing' on your exam certificate or was it (as on mine) the more grandiose 'Geometrical and Mechanical Drawing'?
Oh, hang on a minute, Paddy. I've just re-read your post. Unless you simply forgot to mention a modern language, you're officially a 'failure' - just like me!
6 gcse's, 5 a levels, one degree (1st), pg cert and studying on for an msc. i am annoyed that i am no longer the most qualified person in my house - mr kicker has finished his masters and is awaiting the result (it's gonna be good!) x
Chico, I'll have to check tomorrow but I think it was actually called Engineering Drawing, this was under the old Northern Universities Board. I did French but I wasn't all that good at it and just scrapped through with a minimum grade pass I think it was a 5 at the time I try to forget it as it was probably the worst result in my academic career.
