I am told that all Tamla Mowton records fade out at the end, with only two notable exceptions - does anybody know what they are?

I think I can half answer your question. The only Tamla Motown record that I can remember that does not fade out is Behind a Painted Smile by the Isley Brothers.

The answers are Lionel Ritchie and Diana Ross-Endless love and Stevie Wonder-I Just Called To Say I Love You. These are the most popular tracks that do not fade however I believe there are at least three others.

Even though there are a few exceptions to the fade-out rule, the concept was a sound one. The fade-out idea was Motown founder Berry Gordy's way of making his records sound as if there was a continuous party going on that never ended. Incidentally, apart from Kiki Dee and R. Dean Taylor, does anyone know if there were many other white acts on Motown?

Behind a painted smile by The Isley Bros and The Onion Song by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell are the only ones I know of.

Two other white artists on Motown were Tina Marie, then girlfriend of bad boy 'funk punk' Rick James, and Frankie Valli who recorded a song called The Nigfht on Motown subsidiary label Mowest. The song was a hugely popular hit among British northern soul fans.

As well as previous answers Rare Earth, Charlene(I`ve never been to me - number one in 82) and Meat Loaf(!!) were for a time white artists on Motown.Nothing to do with the question but a great piece of trivia in my sad world is that most of the songs recorded by the Four Tops were written for a white man that then turned Motown down-Stand up Mr Tom Jones
