What Happened On 3Rd Feb. 1959?
"The Day the Music Died"
55 years ago tomorrow - When the World said goodbye Buddy.
Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, JP [Big Bopper] Richardson and Pilot Roger Peterson, died in a plane crash over Mason City, Clear Lake, Iowa, USA.
All 3 artists were great influences on many musicians to follow them over the last 55 years. The best remembered was Buddy Holly, in particular his early inspiration of The Beatles.
I remember to this day where I was when I heard the news, as a 12 year old. I'm proud to say that I still have his, and the Then Crickets, full catalogue on vinyl.
Aber's What are your memories of the Three of Them?

I don't think I realised at the tender age of 14 that it would still resonate across the ages unlike, say, 22 November 1963, 4 April 1968 or 20/21 July 1969.
I remember it well. I saw the headlines in someone's newspaper on my way to school. (Were we separated at birth?) I was never much of a fan of Richie Valens (too dreary) or Big Bopper (too silly) but I was a great Buddy Holly fan.
Since the golden voice was beginning to break, I bought myself a guitar and started with Crickets music - and the rest, they say, is history.

Thanks / Diolch to all ... maggiebee - the BB 78 - if it's the original 78 - seriously - get it valued. I have the original 10in Johnny Burntte & R&R Trio album, and was amazed at what it is/ worth. and Jeffa - Yes poor old Waylon left us a few years ago. I have 29 albums of his !! Also, the last musical feat that Buddy did, was at The Clear Lake gig; he played drums for Dion [ Have you listened to " Yo Frankie" - that's a Classic.]
Totally confused, [baldric] as The Author I posted a very sensible Question, asking for the observation and memories of other ABers, and pleased to say have had some very sensible replies. Do you have anything productive to add? What are your memories of that day, and influences over the past 55 years. If not and if you don't get it - suggest the thread is closed!!
