I suspect much of the male hatred aimed at the entire Boy Band genre is that teenage girls gush over the band members' looks and, by comparison, the rest of us look plain, or downright ugly, not to mention not loaded with cash, like pop singers are. So boy band members represent a direct threat with our chances of getting a girlfriend (when we're in that age group). Of course, the girls in question grow up, fast, so the typical, 'manufactured' boy band seldom lasts more than a year or two. Don't worry, they'll be a new one along, any minute.
So, the general public has developed the, somewhat jaded view that they are insubstantial, flash-in-the-pan 'pap' and not what you could describe as "music built to last".
Generically, I'd describe the music as "ballads", which is a style you could trace back to the 1920s/30s. There may still be people alive who listen to Bing Crosby, on a daily basis and he sold in the millions. These days, a number one only needs to sell a few hundred thousand, so targeting one specific audience - teenage girls who have only been exposed to recent marketing and are entirely ignorant of the other million or so acts (of the past 50-odd years) is a winning strategy. Whereas bands which appeal to all genders/orientations don't chart so highly, even when their musicianship is, arguably better.
There is a whole other anti-marketing, anti-pre-packaged generic vocal group angle but I hardly need to repeat what you've no doubt heard before.
So, I don't think you need to question your sexuality; you just need to widen your horizons and try music by other contemporary bands and, especially, not forgetting the enormous back catalogue of past artistes. You Tube vids of my favourite bands always have praising comments from people in their 20's who are only just discovering them.
