Last night I saw the Misfits live at the Cambridge Junction. I stood right next to the Mosh Pit and I was amazed that no one was hurt. Is Moshing just one big bundle or is it a dance style and do moshers look out for each other have a code of conduct ? After the gig all the Moshers looked exhausted.

Can any Moshers out there explain the buzz ?

hi, moshers do tend to look out for eachother, i have only been hurt in a mosh pit once, but then some other moshers looked out for us, as some moshers, particularly younger ones, dont care who they hurt.

at the reading festival last year thlostprophets mosh was mega mad, but no one seemed hurt, until this huge man fell on me! And when i saw Korn last year it was excellent! if you fall down someone will pick you up, a lot of bands will ask for people to do this at the start of the gig.

The buzz of it is getting completely into the music!!

It's like an unpredictable activity - accidents happen, but as boobesque explains, there is an unwritten code of conduct where people help each other. Of course it only takes one or two idiots who don't know / care to spoil things, but by and large, everyone is OK.

People do get bumps and bangs but sheer adrenaline means you don;t feel it until after the show has finished.

I hate moshing. I'd much rather stand a bit further back and not get trampled on!
I hate moshing too.  I reckon they ought to provide a special mosh pit to one side, surrounded by speakers, so they can let loose in there without unsettling everyone else and ruining their view.  It seems bizarre that the front third of the crowd aren't even watching the band. I remember the days when you could stand at the front at Reading and watch the band close up without getting manhandled.  Maybe I'm getting old...;-)
I used to mosh and have been known to partake in the occasional stage dive. Great fun. The only time I hurt myself was when the crowd opened up after my feet had left the stage and *splat*. Only ever got bruises from moshing. The most memorable was some crusty with 24 hole doccers going mental to The Levellers and I had shorts on. Black shins anyone?

I was younger then though. Much prefer seeing a band with a pint in hand not getting spilt. I leave the moshing to the kids, and I'm happy with that. Good to see the art hasn't died!
