Can anyone explain why the guy in the radionhead video for 'just'? is lying down?

He's heard somethng so despair-inducing, so overwhelming, so heartbreaking and so devastating, that anyone who hears it has to lie down, give up everything and die. As the message is passed around, the impulse spreads, with the implication that evryone in the world will eventually succumb. Cheerful lot, Radiohead, eh?
