Who originally did this song? Was it Cyndi Lauper, or Roy Orbison. I think it was written by the same guy who wrote True Colours and Time after Time for Ms Lauper, but I thought Roy Orbison did it first. Of course, it may have been written for him by them....

"I Drove All Night" was written by Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly, for Roy Orbison. Steinberg and Kelly also wrote hit pop songs such as: "Like a Virgin" (Madonna), "True Colors" (also Cyndi Lauper), "So Emotional" (******* Poostain) and "Alone" (Heart).
Apparently it was written for Roy Orbison, though Cyndi Lauper was the first to actually release a version: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Drove_All_Night
