I suppose this is more business than music, but does anyone know how an indie record label licenses music out to a major one, and why they would do it?
When promoting a UK established artist, an indy label will often team up with a major label to attempt to break the US market. The reason for this is that the major labels have much more influence on radio playlists, and also a much bigger distribution network for sales. Not to mention contacts in magazines, advertising etc.
