Definitions of 'good' and 'bad' music are bound to be subjective. For example, Crazy Frog's 'Axel F' or Joe Dolce's 'Shaddap You Face' are probably unlikely to achieve as much critical acclaim from 'music experts' as Beethoven's Eroica but, if the sales of those recordings are anything to go by, they brought a lot of pleasure to vast numbers of people, so it's hard to see how they can really be labelled as 'bad' music.

237sj - It was not my intention to get into a spat with anyone.
I posted the clip because I like the band - and my intention was for anyone to like it - or not, as they choose.
I argued with Naomi because she said that it was 'chronic' - which is not the same as saying that she thinks it's chronic. One is an inaccurate statement, the other is not.
I jokingly referred to Naomi's frequent and detailed posts in Religion about Muslims, and her oft-stated disgust at the depth of my ignorance on the subject.
The point is, I expressed opinions there, she is doing so here – and I have no problem with that at all – because we are music fans and we like and dislike what appeals, that applies to all of us.
Hopefully we can draw a line, and people will post if they like the music or not, that was the original idea in posting it.

andy-hughes, //you understand Islam better than no-one else//
I’m not sure where you’re drawing a comparison between many years of academic study and scratching a bit of money – not earning a living – from writing about popular music, but you remind me of the self-declared opera buffs who, whilst completely ignoring the absolute magic of Puccini, declare that anyone who doesn’t go into spasms over Mozart doesn’t understand music.

Naomi - as usual, you have to drag a simple thread into a personal argument, and be rude to me.
You have stated your opinion of the music I posted - noted, thank you.
Your personal insults and self-aggrandisement are not requested or required, so please refrain before this thread gets pulled - you have caused that far too often in the past.
My discussion with you on this thread is ended - have the last word if you must - you usually have to anyway.

Buenchico - thank you for your contribution.
When I referred to ‘understanding music’ in my personal terms, I was referring to experience of talking to hundreds of musicians about how and why they make the music they do.
I am really wary of referring to ‘good’ or ‘bad’ music, which is why I always dispute anyone’s view that well-made music is not well-made music. Anyone (and I am absolutely as prone as anyone else) can say that they don’t like a piece of music, but that does not make it ‘bad’ music.
Popularity is not a sin – so Crazy Frog and Mr Dolce are as entitled to enjoy their bank balances as much as Leonard Cohen or Brain Wilson.
Part of my pleasure is getting seriously het up about discussing it –good and bad – it’s my passion.

andy-hughes, read back to your posts at 22:56 and 23:02 and think again. I simply said that the music is chronic - and in return I get that barrage – together with spurious accusations of self-aggrandisement and trumped-up charges of being responsible for having threads pulled. And there’s me thinking that everyone is entitled to their opinion. Clearly not - especially if they disagree with yours.
Andy, the clip in your OP shows a guy who's not too bad on slide guitar but I've seen a LOT better. As for JD himself he couldn't carry a tune in a bucket. I'm not sure what key he's singing in but it isn't the same one as the band are playing in. The whole thing is rather cacophonous and 'lumpy'. The tune never really gets going, is repetitive in the extreme and quite depressing.

divebuddy – Do you actually have anything useful in response to the OP, which is to listen to the song, and offer a view if you feel like it –
Or are you sticking to your default position of jumping on the sniping bandwagon and putting your inaccurate ten pence worth in as usual?
You’ve told me twice previously that you are going to ignore my posts – any chance of you starting now?
