It was yoko's decision..dunno why

She said she preferred a vigil for people to pray for his soul...so thats what took place instead.

Can you immagine it? It would have been a complete circus, with the world and his wife who are fans, but never knew JL personally weeping and wailing - much like the Diana scenes here. Yoko has always had an inate sense of dignity and privacy - this was just one more example of it at work.

I agree with andy, Apperently Ringo starr said when he went to see her after the shooting to pay his respects, all the fans stood outside screaming for him to come to the window whilst he was there. It would've just bee a spectacle...

See this months Q magazine. It's a Lennon special and has lots more interesting information about what Paul thought etc, too.

Believe me . It was within Japanese tradition to cremate soon (some cultures even cremate the same day!). As it happened Yoko's culture fitted perfectly for privacy. Just one more thing though -apart from Yoko (and maybe Sean), none of Lennons living relatives (cousins, steps, etc) actually KNOW where JL ashes are.
