And amongst others he played Mull of Kintyre.

He followed it by saying that it was the first record in the UK to sell 2,000 000 copies.

It reached No. 1, this week, in 1977 and stayed there for nine weeks!

Do you remember it? :-)

Johnnie Walker is for drinking, not listening to.
Yes by Wings if I remember rightly. Always thought it was a bit of a dirge
Question Author
I knew every word and had a nice sing along.
Question Author
Jack, you can do both. Drink and listen.
How could we forget it Tills..... try as we might. :))
He played this as well and I was singing it with the daft old dog dancing and yelping along(not " She who must be obeyed") like a madhouse. :)) I was singing wholeheartedly but changing "girl" to boy.

Yes, I mentioned it in a thread tuther day.

:-) When I was singing along to that Togo, I heard Mr T say to Tilly, 'It's ok, Tilly, it's just your mum singing. Don't mind it.' Bloomin' cheek!
Question Author
Anyway, I posted this because I couldn't believe that it had sold two million copies.

Who'd a' thought it, eh?
Have not seen Johnnie Walker in the shops recently, seems to be mainly marketed in Asia and the Far East now.
Years ago there were tokens in Benson & Hedges ciggy packs. Collect tokens to get a free miniature of Johnnie Walker whisky. I worked the bar in a large pub and had to clean up after closing time. I do not smoke but I collected enough tokens from empty B&H packs to get 23 miniatures in time for Christmas. People could leave 10 or 12 empty packs with the tokens still in on just one evening in those pre smoking ban days.
Question Author
That was enterprising of you Eddie. That's a lot of free whisky.

He also played this. Another of my favourites.

JW Black has never been scarce, Red was sold almost exclusively overseas for a while but has been back I the supermarkets for a few years now. Blue and Green are a bit more exclusive and there may be more colours.

How would I know? You sayin' I've got a drink problem? :-)
More like; Dull of Kintyre :-)
Oh and JW the DJ is an oasis of joy in a Sunday desert of Elaine Page and that O'Grady bloke.
Yeah, you find it difficult to lay your hands on the blue and green. :))
Fourth best-selling single in the UK of all time, after that godawful Diana thing, "Do They Know It's Christmas?" and Bohemian Rhapsody.
Question Author
But two million people liked it, Melv.

Elaine Page is dire! She simpers.

Mull of Kintyre should have been banned, dreadful dirge, cannot understand how it was so popular.
Question Author
I din't by it but I did buy the Jackson Browne album.
Loads of people liked Mr Blobby as well, Tilly.
