If you have to choose one album as your favourite of all time, what would it be? Mine would be Paris by Malcolm McLaren (followed by Year Of The Cat by Al Stewart and Desire by Bob Dylan)
My fav of all time would have to be Queen's first album. They may have produced better since, but that was my introduction to the best band in the world.
Came out in 1967 in the "hippy" era but one of those albums were the sound and the songs and the atmosphere just come together.
Lovely production, but not really a "rock" album, it has lots of acoustic guitars, also some violins, but also some brass (trumpets mostly) so quite a mix, but it all works.
Here is the first song on the album "Alone Again Or". Beautiful love song, that opens with some lovely acoustic guitars.
My update above was totally chopped up by AnswerBank, it just chopped off the last two thirds of my update.
Because I put links to three YouTube songs in my update it only put a link to the third YouTube video, the LAST song on the album.
Anyway here is what it supposed to say BEFORE that YouTube video above
This song "You Set The Scene" ends the album, nearly 7 minutes long. This is the era where artists could put together stunning songs like this.
I love the way the song totally changes style about 2 minutes 30 seconds in. It goes in to a slow steady "walking" rhythm and builds and builds till the end of the song, one of the best ends of an album ever.
I'm from the generation that wasn't big on buying albums so most of my albums are older stuff and recently I've been listening to tons of Fleetwood Mac, Sonic Youth etc, but an individual album is hard to pin down, however listened to this a lot recently in it's entirety at night and it's gotta be the Soundtrack from Young Guns II if I had to pick a single album. This is my favourite track from it.
Impossible task; but I could start, depending on the mood I'm in, with LA Woman by The Doors (or should it be Soft Parade, or Morrison Hotel, or Strange Days).
