I prefer the voice of a woman in music personally. One example of this is Ruby Wood, another could be Lauren Hill.

I do understand it is subjective and especially situational, and i do also like the sound of a male vocalist in a lot of songs.

I like both, but some songs suit a female voice and some a male.
Either, depends on the song.
Or:
Mick Hucknall or Josh Groban.
I might actually like Coldplay, if they would just replace the truly dreadful Chris Martin with a woman.
I don’t mind if it’s a man or a woman as long as they sing nicely and DON”T sing jazz. Don’t know who told Jamie Cullum and Jools Holland they could sing but they must be tone deaf and they need shooting?

Have no preference, it's the song that counts imo.
On the whole, I think I prefer a male voice
Mostly I agree with the depends on the song majority but I do find it difficult listening to the upper part of the soprano range especially as I find all but the very best a little shrill rather than light and clear. Much prefer female voices in the contralto range.
Have you listened to my post above Rowan?
How about male / female duets though.
I went back and listened, really lovely. Thanks Shoota.
anyone on the LGBTTQQIAAP spectrum will do, but I also listen to straights of either sex.
Male generally, but some women too as long as they don't shout or scream which seems to happen a lot with popular female singers nowadays.
The music i listen to is mainly, hard rock, heavy rock and prog rock and the great majority of lead vocals belong to the male voice. However, i do think that some women have great voices; Dusty Springfield (back in the day), Yvonne Elliman (JC Superstar), Annie Lennox, Alison Moyet, Florence Welch, Christina (& the Queens), to name but a few.
Roberta Flack singing anything.
Moira Stewart for speaking (some years ago now).
I buy what I like the sound of spath, male or female.

don't mind either way, as long as they can sing. some can't and should quietly fade away..
