To me, one of the greatest pleasures of music, apart from the sound of it, is discussing its appeal or the lack of it with other music fans.
Stuart Maconie is a man who has probably forgotten more about poplar music than I will ever know, and someone who has caused me think seriously about giving up music journalism when I realise that the skills he possesses are never ever going to be mine.
But I remain utterly defeated about his devotion to Blur, a bunch of whiney-voiced pop chancers, and he is equally baffled by my admiration for Queen, one of the finest bands ever to put song to tape, whom he considers overblown popinjays
