I’m more into Classical than opera LB so realising Glynebourne is opera predominantly ( after I pressed send)

That piece is loved by so many Bobbi, classical music lovers or not. Same as Nessun Dorma is. There are so many pieces that are just as beautiful, if not better, which are not heard, until they get used in a flipping advert LOL. xx

And isn't that a wonderful feeling. I get that as soon as the orchestra starts up at the beginning of an opera. If it's Madame Butterfly I'm crying immediately which of course means I'm happy!
This is one of the most famous operatic arias in the world, where Butterfly is longing for her lover to come back. If you can bear to listen for a few minutes, have this one on me. xx

Thanks LadyB. BBC2 showed this one a few years ago. It is absolutely wonderful, with Gerald Finley playing the Don.

If I remember, it features our own Kate Royal as Donna Elvira.
It's quite a dark interpretation, especially with the final "descending into hell" scene.

I'm with you on Cosi Fan Tutte. Probably my favourite too.
One time I saw it, it was a touring production by The Garden Opera Company. We were all in the grounds of a big ol' Devon stately home .A load of us were given complimentary tickets by a local Builders' Merchants.......... including hampers & champers.
How cool is that?

OMG it has only just dawned on me I saw this at Glyndebourne on 19th May 2011 which was the final dress rehearsal. Silly me, I get dafter by the day. It is glorious.

actually since this is a tootsy wootsy thread wh no one besides an opera lover ( around five on AB ) reads
I listened to Don G last night whilst readingmy copy of La Peste - in French of course - no the mixed Italian and French didnt grate

and yes Rieux does say a lot of " and then they will DDDIIIIEEEE!"
