maybe it's the only song he knows the lyrics and tune to?
ahhhh, memories. One of my first boyfriends sang this to me one night. It was kind of a joke between us, as he'd kept me out late on our first date, and he thought my dad would think him a Desperado. Made me laugh, and kind of became our song. Not sure it has many romantic overtones tho. Unless perhaps you are the flighty type, not prone to settling down, and he wants you to settle down and get it on with him. Go for it girl....sexual tension is always great fun to release!!!!!
Doesnt start too well:
"Now it seems to me, some fine things
Have been laid upon your table
But you only want the ones that you cant get"
-Not sounding too good but then:
"why dont you come to your senses?
You better let somebody love you, before its too late "
Mixed messages i think but the romantic in me thinks the second bit is more relevant.
......or maybe he just liked the tune!
I once got a girl back who had dumped me by singing All of my Heart by ABC - works a treat fellas!

Well it has a tender melody, and despite what you may think, a desperado is not necessarily a desparate person. Desperado really means a 'bandit' or someone on the run (see lyrics) a lonely person. In the sense of this song, it means that someone is running away from love (queen of diamonds = material / q of hearts = spiritual) and could simply be saying don't shut yourself off from love and don't put up false reasons for being stubborn or rejecting feelings of the heart.

So in fact, rather than being desperate, your man may be saying that rather than find excuses and getting old and lonely, he would rather draw the queen of hearts (you) than diamonds (material wealth) as the heart is the winner all the time.

Regardles of all that, if he can sing it in tune, he aint done bad!

plus dosent it have a line in "don't your feet get cold in the wintertime"

maybe he meant he had cold feet?

With all that sexual tension going on, he should have sung Sex Farm by Spinal Tap. A classic for any romantic serenade.
