Okay, without Googling, can anyone tell me what this week;s number one album is in the UK album charts. I didn't know it had ever been re-issued. I'll give you a clue - I first herd it nearly 50 years old- I kid you not

I believe Goat's Head Soup has been rereleased and remastered for its 50th anniversary. It's not as unusual as you may think, Rereleases from The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, Van Morrison, Bob Dylan etc ofter crechaet in the higher region of the Top 100. Fleetwood Mac's Rumours has been in the 50 best selling albums of the year for the last two years, and looks like doing it again thi year.

I suspect it's only the preservative qualities of the drugs that keep them going ... the Stones' first number one was nearer to the sinking of the Titanic than to today.

I wondered about a 50th anniversary, Mozz- I remember something similar was done for Sergeant Pepper for example a few years ago- but Goats Head Soup is only 47-48 years old..
Maybe it has been reissued to coincide with the new store in jno's link

GHS was the only Stones album i've ever possessed. I wasn't 'into' them in a big way, but i did enjoy quite a lot of their music. The album came as part of a bargain lot i bought in Germany. Also included in the 'lot' were Rick Wakeman's 'Journey To The Centre Of The Earth', Groundhog's 'Thank Christ For The Bomb', 'In A Gadda Da Vida by Iron Butterfly' and 'Tales From The Topographic Oceans' by Yes. Can't recall how many DMs i had to part with for that lot, but it was worth every pfennig. :-)

You're right FF, it came out in 1973.

"On 4 September 2020, the album was reissued and features never before released outtakes such as "Criss Cross", released as a music video on 9 July 2020, "Scarlet", featuring Jimmy Page, released as a music video on 8 August 2020, and "All the Rage"."

So, no special occasion, they just found some bonus tracks for it. Exile on Main St got the same treatment around a decade or so back iirc. Think it might also have topped the album chart, but I'm not 100% on that.

30 years ago there was a song bemoaning how the charts were full of old acts. today at least two of the bands name-checked are still around - whereas few could even remember who was doing the bemoaning back in 1989.

they've had to cancel this year's tour, so the rerelease is probably to fill the gap. I don't think there was actually a 1970 album to redo: Let it Bleed 69, Sticky Fingers 71.

Mushy, are ypu on about I'd Rather Jack? Possibly the worst song Stock, Aitkin and Waterman ever inflicted on the unexpecting public, and my word, they inflicted some horrors.

mozz, yep. in 2013 a TV company doing a retrospective on Stock Aitken and Waterman attempted to track down the Reynolds Girls so they could take part. their attempt was unsuccessful.

"Despite the fact the song was voted the 91st worst pop record of all time in a poll conducted in 2003, 'I'd Rather Jack' was a big hit climbing the UK charts to peak at number 8." A follow up song 'Get Real' followed but only sold a few dozen copies. Thus ended the career of the Reynolds Girls. Exactly:-)

Showing a little musical ignorance I know who the renolds girls are ;-) but some of the more true (Opinion) above artists mentioned I'm not familiar with, I can't recall a time though That Rumors, DSOTM and Queens greatest hits ever left the UK album charts.

Ken, a Queen question, apart from the collab with Bowie.... Is Joan Armatrading the only artist to sing on a Queen album? The gospel quoir 'All Gods people' don't count nor 'who wants to live forever' I mean Artist... no Solo projects etc... not trivia, i just can't think of any.

no. it wasn't performed live until after Freddie's death, when Elton John provided the vocal. the recording though was 100% queen.

They may well have done, Arky. JA isn't listed as having sung with Queen (i guess backing vocals don't really count) so maybe others have, too, but aren't listed. Apart from DB, there are certainly none who have shared lead vocals.

Having just listenend to don't 'Dont lose your head' Comp on random I have just checked CD inlay of 'Akind of magic' JA 'Incidental vocals' so She does get a slight credit.
