Mick Taylor left the group in December 1974 and was replaced by Ronnie Wood on a "temporary" basis.

Ron found early fame with the young Rod Stewart - both were members of The Jeff Beck Group - Ronnie played bass. The two were reunited when Rod replaced Stevie Marriott in The Small Faces - son to be The Faces. The band enjoyed massive success, and Ron was busy with solo work and occasional side projects, including guesting on The Stones' Black And Blue album. The sessions were used to check out a number of players to replace Mick Taylor, and Ron eventually joined in 1973, although as a 'waged' add-on rather thana fully-fledged member.

It was some years before he was given equal shares in the massive tour revenues The Stones generated through the 70's and 80's - he was even reduced to selling some of his famous artwork to keep hold of his houses in England and Ireland.

Now a fully-fledged member, although in common with all other memebrs, only allowed a very occasional writing credit, Ronnie enjoys the multi-million pound salaries generated by the band's world tours, and devotes his spare time to painting, and running his Irish stud farm.

Heres a fairly comprehensive musical history

If you want to try any of Ronnies solo music - try 'Gimmie Some Neck' or 'Slide On This'. Good albums!

I would like to thank all the above for the anwers, but especially andy hughes and alunrw for the comprehensive information. The web site has confirmed the information I wanted to know, which is that I am now very sure I went to the same school and Ronnie Wood, (he was the unhappy looking kid then as well) but I didn't know he played with Kim Gardener (who I know I went to school with) Kim Gardener was also in a group called Ashton Gardener and Dyke and recorded a song "Resurrection Shuffle" THANKS AGAIN.
