As, in my opinion, the most knowledgeable Aber we have on popular music I wondered if you’ve ever considered applying to have a go at Ken Bruce’s Pop Master? I think you’d do very well.

I listen to it most mornings with varying degrees of success. However, i would never consider myself well enough versed in 'pop music' to even think of entering, not even for the 'one size fits all' T-short :-) When my children were much younger and at home, i was more or less force-fed whatever was in the charts at the time and knew much more than i do now. These days i couldn't name one single chart entry. If i'm not keen on a song, i don't retain the knowledge of who sung it, or when.

No, it's simply my humourous response to Naomi deliberately baiting me because she holds my music journalism career in deep contempt, and occasionally has the need to use this as a platform to remind me.

Anne raises a good point, there are some who post regularly who are very well versed in music, not much you can tell TonyAV about Northern Soul for example.
JimF is also extremely knowledgeable about a range of music.
In truth, I have learnt a lot over the years of posting nightly threads and it's a joy.

Mamyalynne, I formed my opinion of you from observing that your interest isn’t limited to specific genres but encompasses music across the board and across the decades. I think it’s quite rare for anyone other than the young to know what’s going on in the current charts - but you do and I admire that. I haven’t even heard of many new performers!
