The first reference to surfing by Jan and Dean was probably the Album Take Linda Surfin in 1963, and then the American No1 Surf City in the same year.
The track Lets Go Trippin considered the first surf instrumental — was actually inspired by the waves, as Dick Dale sought to translate the feeling he had surfing onto tape. Later surfing tracks used the bongo drums and Hawaian sounds to try to do the same. The people who did actually surf, and formed their own little sub culture, had their own sountrack as did other social groups.
