Billy Joel

I have over the years considered myself fairly cool when it comes to music. I am 33 years old and from a very young age preferred the older music.

Personal favourites are Bowie, Elvis and The Beach Boys. I believe these artists define a coolness that will probably not go away in my lifetime.

However, I have recently acquired The Essential Billy Joel. I have, in the past, slated this little man for being no more than dad-rock for middle aged, cardigan wearing plebs who think Celion Dion is sexy and go to Center Parks for vacation.

However, I actually like it. The 80's stuff is a bit iffy but overall I have found a new artist who I can listen to with great affection.

The question is: Is Billy Joel cool or am I getting old?

I sort of like Billy Joel, although he would never make an ipod playlist for me but then my DAD always listened to him, so I think that its just some subconcious sentimental attachment I have to him. So WM it is dad rock sorry, and I feel your love the guy has probably been accompanied with a little bit of weight gain, balding and poorer eyesight.

Well, Piano Man is one of the great songs, comes to my desert island. We have the albums on the juke box in my local and they're played as much as, if not more than, the others. Dunno whether that makes him cool, but it certainly means he's well liked.

Don't worry about it, just enjoy.

Billy Joel..went to see him in concert and loved it...lots of improvisation and anecdotes inbetween songs.

Also far cheaper and more talented than U2.

more talented than u2 ? surely a matter of opinion ?

anyone who worries about being cool clearly isnt ! when you get to a certain age,being cool means not trying.you should listen/wear/watch what you like and if it is deemed as 'cool' then so be it - the definition of cool ie you dont follow fashions or trends.

surely mattk that is what I have said. I don't follow music fashions or trends. I can assure you when I was at school listening to Bowie, all my mates were listening to Rick Astley and T'pau!!!!!
