2pac (Tupac Shakur) was one of the first of the 'gangsta' rappers to make a wide cultural impact. This was due to his genuine gang culture history, which came in advance of his fame, coupled with his high level of talent as a writer, rapper, and actor which made him one of the biggest selling rappers in history.
Following his death in 1996 from shooting - a crime which remains unsolved - Tupac has joined the legion of stars who lived fast, died young, and left a good-looking corpse. Tupac's legend continues to grow as the next generation of disaffected youth regards him as an idol, and the vast number of unreleased recordings he made during his short career are re-mixed and released. Tupac's posthumous output now outstrips his recordings released during his lifetime, and his image is marketed worldwide as a 'bad boy' pin up.
