What usually prompts a song to enter your head? Is it something you hear on the radio? Do you automatically wake up with a tune? Or is it something else?

Earlier today I couldn't stop singing "From Russia With Love" just because I spotted a newspaper headline about Moscow! It was that simple. And after an hour of singing the tune I felt like I was going mad. :o\

Anything prompts a song in my head just like you reading a paper. A friend of mine at work always starts singing really cheesy songs then see's how long it takes for it to get in my head and waits for me to start humming/whistling/singing it. Of course this means that he has won, its so hard to not take the tune on board and even harder trying to concentrate on not singing it. Needless to say i know what he's on with now and try to get him with my own songs. Try it, you're bound to get someone following suit.

I just have this ancient tune in my head, and have to constantly remind myself not to sing aloud...

Would be too embarrassing, if anybody came into my office!

:o)

I live in a seaside town & there are lots of B&Bs ~ if ever I pass one & see the sign I start to sing 'Bed & Breakfast Man' by Madness..it does my head in!

I do try & avoid radio stations which do a 'guess the year' slot. If it gets to 1982 I will end up with 'Come On Eileen' on my brain for 12 hours :o(

usually the song i hear (notice the most) whilst in the car on the way to work sticks with me all day.

in fact this morning i popped out to tesco and only realised i was singing the new Coldplay song out loud when i was reaching the chorus for the second time! oh well.

i do randomly get bursts of the xmas carol 'Little Donkey' in my head from time to time. psychiatrists would have a field day with me!! lol

I do exactly the same but i usually end up singing one of the kids cartoon programmes theme tune.

There i am...a big bloke at 18 stone, walking down the road singing "pepper pig", "Bob the builder" or "Dora the explora" songs

There's a theory that songs stick in people's heads because their subconscious minds are trying to work out what the lyrics are and so they keep playing the song over and over again in their brains until they get the words. I'm not sure how much truth there is in that, seeing as I sometimes get songs stuck in my head that I know all the lyrics to. No idea what starts it off though.
