Dire Straits had a song called 'Romeo and Juliet' which was in the top ten in the early eighties - could it have been that?
I would be inclined to go along with Lindsey's answer, since Dire Straits' song has received a lot of airplay since its release, probably second only to 'Sultans Of Swing' as their most popular single.
However, if you are sure the song you are chasing is definitely from the 1970's check out a song called 'Romeo' from a band called Mr Big, which was a number four hit in 1977.

DIRE STRAITS released a song called "Romeo & Juliet" in the UK, but this is not a seventies song (it was from the 1980 album "Making Movies") so it may not be the song you are thinking of. Good bye!
