Ok so my friend is auditionining for X-factor this week, being so busy with exams, revision and final papers we are running out of time to pick the perfect song. We are after something not too powerful, as I think nerves may get the better of her on the day but then again, not too plain, preferably a balad - any ideas

How about 'For The Good Times' by Kris Kristofferson. If KK can sing it, anyone can.

Avoid anything by Whitney, Robbie or Mariah. Absolute kiss of death.

Why not go for Madonna's Live To Tell, or The Bangles Eternal Flame. Both are relatively straightforward because they can either be sung in a low or high register.

You don't say whether you're male or female, but I would suggest, if you're both girls, go for something originally sung by a man...it will make you stand out.

If you're both blokes, avoid any 'blokey' song. Don't even think about Oasis, Keane, Feeder etc etc.

Also, 'It's Not Unusual' is virtually impossible for anyone to sing, as is Unchained Melody.

Why not get an uptempo track, and slow it down to make it a ballad? That will also get you attention.

If and when you win, I would like to take 10% of your earnings.

See the day by Girls Aloud (Dee C Lee originally). Lucy Benjamin sang it on Xfactor this week and it was great. Quite simple and a really nice song. Simon Cowell loved it too which should help your mate!
