Samuels was a New York recording engineer who had written songs for Johnnie Ray and Sammy Davis, Jr, and who passed time playing piano in nightclubs. According to Rhino Records, the single sold nearly a million copies in little more than a week's time. Jerry stayed on at the recording studio and began making a second LP...' and later 'quit his job and hit the road to rediscover himself.' Then he found a new career running an agency to provide entertainers for, would you believe it, nursing homes.
