David Gray is English. He was born in Manchester, raised in Wales. One of his early influences was traditional Irish music, which comes across in some of his first songs. For info visit his official web site http://www.davidgray.com and then follow "links" to other sites.
David Gray was born in Manchester, but moved to Wales and spent most of his life there. He considers himself Welsh rather than English. In interviews he has often commented that it was the Welsh landscape which inspired much of his music and lyrics.

Thank you both for your help!
David Gray himself says he is Welsh not sure if he bases this on the fact that he was brought up in Solva harbour Pembrokeshire (beautiful place incidently) or perhaps one, or both, of his parents were Welsh. I think if you listen he has a west Wales lilt to his singing.
