Can't think or find anything of British No1 being banned in US. Louie,Louie was only banned in a few states and by various companies,that was early 60's. Link Wray's "Rumble" which was an instrumental was from 58,that also was banned in some states and some radio companies,but didn't hit No1 here.
Plenty of records banned by various radio stationson both sides of Atlantic,but not banned throughout a country as far as I can find. Hope someone as better luck

1958 no. 1s were: Great Balls of Fire / Jailhouse Rock / Story of My Life (Michael Holliday) / Magic Moments / Whole Lotta Woman / Who's Sorry Now / On the street where you live / All I have to do is dream / When / Carolina Moon or Stupid Cupid / It's all in the game / Hoots Mon / It's only make believe.

Wasn't Elvis banned in some states? Doesn't have to be a British song does it? Thinking about it, it only needed to be no.1 in Britain.

Also had a look at a couple of years back 1956 / 1957 in case of delayed ban - nothing obvious - unless you count Johnnie Ray's - Yes tonight josephine!!!!

In 1958 the American (St.Louis) radio station KWK banned all rock + roll records, as a " clearing of undesirable music ". This would include British numer 1's Great Balls of Fire and Jailhouse Rock.
