If ever I have R2 on at the time Steve Wright comes on, it goes off. I didn't like his format on R1 years ago, and now it's just as bad with his "crew". Whooping and cheering, all pally pally together, just annoys the hell out of me.
Chris Evans, whilst no doubt talented, just doesn't seem R2 to me. He seems very much up his own Rs, and I find him also annoying.
Whilst I have my Meldrew head on, I'll just say that the squeeky wench who is on before Wogan also gets on my pip, not for her voice, but she seems to be able to have 6 topics all open at once, and flits about with her speech. My first thing in the morning brain wont cope.

Stuart Maconie is good. For him, it's all about the music. His chat between songs is intelligent, informative, has just the right amount of wit without trying to be "wacky" and "zany" and, most importantly, doesn't go on too long.
With Chris Evans, I get the feeling that he sees the music as an interruption that he has to tolerate in between bouts of showing off. Then there's the way he seems to get excited about the most mundane of topics. "Next, we'll be talking to a man who has collected over 14,000 paperclips. Wow! How cool is that?" Not in the slightest, you copper-domed numpty.
I did try to give him a chance, but although he's not quite as bad as he used to be, the off button still gets some use when he comes on.

I'm probably quite young for a Johnnie Walker listener (34) but was sad to see him go. I think Stuart Maconie does an excellent job when filling in and was hoping he would do it full time.
Chris Evans - I think he should be given a chance, he is far less manic/egocentric than he was on Virgin, and although he may initially lose a few listeners like yourself who just don't like him, I think in the long term he will add to that audience.
Like him or not, he's a very astute guy - certainly no idiot - and I think he is the first person to realise that his zany ginger bloke persona needs to be turned down a notch for R2.
I an see your point though - I feel the same way about Sara Cox on R1 as you do about Chris Evans. Would somebody tell her that a key skill of a radio DJ is to speak in a clear and precise, entertaining manner, not some slow drawn out drawl that makes you sound as though you were held back a few years at school, and that actually putting some effort into what you are doing is about 10th on your list of priorities.....the annoying bint!

Absolutely agree with all that has been said. And yes Rog. he may be very astute, but that doesn't make his charisma level rise any higher. R2 is worse off having that tw@t and his inane drivel and stupid twaddle cluttering up what was once an excellent slot. The variety of music is declining as is the standard of discussion. Send him back to Virgin I say!!!
Andy - agree with you on the 'squeaky wench' stance. It's not Sarah Kennedy's voice or the music she plays, it's the cr@p about her 'dearly beloved' (yuk!) and her old aunt and the cat and the house - who gives a flying f**k?

My opinion?
Ken Bruce - great show.
Jeremy Vine - very good broadcaster but i cant stand listening to Middle England moaning about asylum seekers/ inheritance tax/ poor schools blah de blah.
Steve Wright - very good show and pitched perfectly for that time of the day.
Chris Evans - very very wrong. Late night , saturday morning maybe but not in that slot. Big mistake.
Stewart Maconie was great in that slot and perfectly suited but i think he enjoys his 'niche' shows where he can be a bit more free to express his musical tastes. Likewise Mark Radcliffe, but he was brilliant in the afternoon slot recently but i see him as the logical succesor to Ken Bruce should he decide to go.
Radcliffe has made a seamless transistion to R2 but Evans has brought a commercial mentality with him which doesnt belong.
Evans is a good broadcaster but he is so so wrong in that slot.

Sarah Kennedy - on the odd occasions Im up that early, doesnt get a look in
Wogan and Ken Bruce are the highlights, esp Popmaster, at 10-30.
Jeremy Vine I listen to every now and then, and having Mark Radcliffe on (2-5) for a few weeks was great.
And I used to enjoy JW on drivetime...and Im just hitting 30!!! (A youngish Grumpy Old Man)
Cant abide Radio 1...just seems to play drivel and the news is to celebrity focused

well jackdaniels u i totally agree with you highh light of the day ken bruces pop master quiz along with alex lesters the odd couple quiz but i really miss johnny walkers mystery voice quiz and his whole show . bring back walker i say and sack evans jesus even sally traffic sounds fed up of evans. oh how i miss the banter between johnny and sal tea times will never be the same again
Sally Traffic seems to be getting along fine for a while now. Its Stuart Maconie who seems to be grating on her now. The last two times he has been deputising Sally has taken the second week off. This time when Stuart was told she was off this week she said, "yes, I have had enough of you to be frank".
