Shelly and Karen Poole, daughters of Brian Poole (of 60s Tremeloes fame), had been singing together for nine years before they were "discovered" by Dave Stewart and signed with Mercury records in 1996, where they released 3 albums.
In 2001, Mercury records chose to purge their inventory of artists and they parted company with Alisha's Attic. The sisters decided to pursue solo careersShelly as a solo singer-songwriter and Karen as a lyricist for high-profile pop artists such as Will Young, Sugababes, and the Minogue sisters.
Shelly has released a solo album, has written for/with Lene Nystrom & Sophie Ellis-Bextor, and in 2001 married Ally McErlaine from the Scottish band Texas.
