Soft Cell 'b' side - does anyone remember this?
In the '80s I had a 7" vinyl single of Soft Cell's 'Say Hello, Wave Goodbye' and on the 'b' side was a version with a clarinet solo - does anyone know if I can get a copy of the clarinet version anywhere?

'the 7" instrumental b-side has yet to appear on CD officially.'
This implies that there may not be an authorised digital copy of the Dave Tofani clarinet instrumental available, but who knows what the bootleggers have got up to in the meantime.

Naz - as always you are a star. Thanks.
Sadly I no longer have a 'record' player ~ having been dragged kicking and screaming into the digital age by my young and lovely significant other, so if anyone does get wind of a cd (bootleg or otherwise) I'd be pleased to hear from them.
Thank you all for your answers.

OK - A wee bit more info,
There is a version on the "Memorabilia" CD by Soft Cell/Marc Almond Track 13
Say Hello Wave Goodbye 12" (The Long Goodbye - Extended Mendelsohn Remix)
which seems to be the best of both worlds
- it's got the Instrumental version and the original vocal version.
This should be out there for download somewhere (Limewire, etc) - this might keep you happy for a while :-)

The clarinet solo can be found on both the original 12 inch version of 'Say Hello Wave Goodbye' (now issued with all Soft Cell's other 12 inchers on a CD package) and also in part on 'Say Hello Wave Goodbye 91' [The Long Goodbye - Extended Mendelsohn Remix] on their Greatest Hits package.
The clarinet was played by David Tofani, and is one of the most beautiful segments of a pop record ever produced. Julian Mendelsohn's remix is particularly effective, the melodic sweeping clarinet played over Dave Ball's thumping, plodding bass line with soaring keyboards encapsulating the woodwind perfectly. It's a real stop you in your tracks, heartstoppingly lovely piece of music.
