the dum-dum from Jaws
theme tune from Tales of the Unexpected (still sends shivers up my spine).
Music from a movie called "The Sorcerer" by Tangerine Dream.
Yeah kick with you on that one. It's bizarre really though as I always thought the actual "tales" were anything but scary!! :-D
My band working on a brand new piece.
when i was young 'Fire Starter' used to scare the $hit out of me....

could never watch the video on my own.... :o(
'Mars' from the Planets.

It was used as the theme music for a children's TV show called 'The Blackness' in the late 50's / early 60's, bit hazy on the date, but as a child, it really frightened me, and even now it makes me feel uneasy when I hear it.
map...agree with you there! Some of the stories were slightly spooky but to this day, the tune gives me the heebie jeebies. When I was wee, I used to try to leave the room before the tune came on over the closing titles, and when I went up to bed, ALL the lights had to be on till I was safely tucked up for the ngiht :o)
I would agree with the 'Tales Of The Unexpected' theme..as well as the theme to 'Hammer House Of Horror'.

Since 'Reservoir Dogs' I get slightly creeped out by 'Stuck in the middle with you' by Steelers Wheel.
Carmina Burana by Karl Orff does it for me every time - it's the music from the Omen, and latterly, the Old Spice ads. And, oddly enough, for Finish dishwashing tablets. I saw a new ad for Finish the other day, and they had moved from Orff to Wagner, which seems really over-dramatic for washing powder.

Anything by Crazy Frog scares me, but for different reasons.
Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield does it for me every time. Reminds me of headspinning Regan from the Exorcist.
What is it about that Tales of the Unexpected theme? I find it scary too. I don't think I even watched the programme itself. It came on the other day and scared me even then!
a weird little song called mouldy old dough, can't remember who sang it
That would be Lieutenant Pigeon, devilwoman :o)
I agree with you on "Tales of the unexpected" but, there's another TV series where the introduction sends shivers down my spine, even today, it's called " The Armchair Thriller" you can see it on youtube.
I don't know that music itself can be scary, though there are plenty of dramatic moments that make you jump (if you don't know the piece, that is). For example, Stravinsky's Rite of Spring has several such moments. Andy above mentioned Mars from The Planets but I always used to think, when I was younger, that Saturn was scary; Mars was just brutal.
And would kickemon and korgy think that the music for Tales of the Unexpected was scary if it had different associations? Supposing it had been used as a sig for, say, a holiday programme?
Having said all that, in the spirit of the question, my vote would go to a piece called Escape Velocity by Trevor Duncan, which was used as the opening and closing music for Quatermass and the Pit (the TV series, not the film).
glad you finally stopped lecturing and gave us an answer mate. I think we understand that music can't be truly "scary" but as you realised, that wasn't actually the point of the question, was it? :o)
The exorcist theme, gets me every time.
The Orb - Little Fluffy Clouds.
boris the spider by the who!!!
