His new song is just bilge. How can someone who made such classic albums throughout the 70's end up making such sugar coated drivel? Can anyone tell me if he now writes his stuff single handedly, or is someone else to blame.

bernie still writes the lyrics to his songs, most of his new songs arnt as good as the 70s, but they are still good, and dont forget he is nearly 60 and wrote over 40 albums

Any artist with a career as long and productive as Elton's will have the occasional song or two that doesn't hit the spot.

I quite like his new song, as much as i have liked anything sincce his early material, but like everyone, musicians evolve and change, their attitudes, their work rate and their standards rise and fall. This may just be a bit of a 'filler' written on an average day. Just let it pass, and wait for the next one.

It may be 'average' by Elton's standards, but Pete Doherty would kill to be that able!

I guess it's a matter of personal taste Andy. I cannot recall anything he has written in the last 25 years that comes close to the likes of Yellow Brick Road. I feel his demise came about in the early 80's, with the likes of Passengers, I'm Still Standing, I Wanna Kiss the Bride, etc. He became too commercial. What you have to bear in mind is the longevity of his latest stuff. It's all forgetable, throwaway if you like. If he were a new artist, I don't think he would even make the top 100.

I cannot see him ever writing another 'classic'.

I can see the point you`re making...I think the same about the Rolling Stones....why do they bother recording new stuff, when it`s obvious that people only go to see them to perform their classics

Agreed Elvis. Much as I love Pink Floyd, I sincerely hope they don't reform and make a new album, as I fail to see how four extremely rich men could continue to write music based on social commentary.

elvis68 and bigdogswang, why elton stop writing, if it is what he likes doing then he can , hes got the money, he is not doing it for the money, so get a life!!!, how would you like it if someone said to you stop doing what you like doing. elton's latest stuff is still better than the rubish that gets to number one theses days!!!
