Can someone please explain why American albums have holes punched or the corner cut away at the bottom of the jacket ?

This is only a guess - But I think these are added to show they are an import/export. I am sure that if you purchased the album in america it wouldn't have these markings.
These holes and cuts are to indicate that they are rejects.
When I get them it's because they're promos and not for resale
