Quality of mp3's.

Hi. On a recent work experience at a sound engineering departement, I noticed when testing the high quality speakers, the engineers refused to use mp3 players and used dvds and cds instead. I'd never really thought about it before - are cd's a lot better quality than mp3s?

yeah of course they are....cds stream at a data rate of over 1000kbps where as your average mp3 only streams at about 128kbps. if you listen very closely with even good quality ear phones and listen to an mp3 side by side with a cd, you'll notice clear difference
MP3 is a compression format - there is some loss of quality.
