A question for all Answerbank contributors. I'm a singer/musician and was advised to put some 'covers' on my CD. So I thought I would turn this question to you people, basically I thought about making quite odd choices, I'm a female singer who plays guitar and piano, so anyone who suggest Back in Black (AC DC) would be given serious consideration. (Although no......I've decided to reject ACDC from my set list. ;-)

Can you give us an idea of what kind of music you play and like, so we know what your style is like?
Well hello...it's good to have a fellow gigging musician on-board....well let's see then how about a Madness track like baggy trousers done on the piano?? Or maybe I will survive on the acoustic guitar?? or any Bob Marley on the piano would ve different....let me know how you get on....i'd like to hear anything unusual!
Do I wanna be adored by the Stone Roses... I always thought it would sound great sung by a woman
I dont want to miss a thing by Aerosmith. I'd buy a cover of that.

Crash into me by Dave Matthews Band (has a gorgeous guitar piece in the beginning that's positively spine-tingling).

Wicked Game by Chris Isaak

Let us know which ones you end up doing!

Similar to Moog, I think it would be interesting to hear a female take o 'male' songs. Possibly Johnny Cash is one of the 'malest' singers out there so how about one of his. As you can play piano how about some Elton John or Billy Joel? Or I think 'Jesse' by Josh Kaddison is a wonderful song. Jesse could easily be assumed to be about a man if a woman sung it.
How about some Tracey Chapman songs? Fast Car is a great one with just accoustic guitar and vocals. Right Here Waiting by Richard Marx would be good and More Than Words by Extreme would sound good with a female voice.
IMO you should only do a cover if a) it's a song that is special to you (i.e. not one that some random bloke on a website suggested) b) you're bringing something new to the song c) you haven't got enough of your own songs to fill an album. otherwise, leave well alone. sorry to be a party pooper.

Thanks people! Excellent ideas, I especially like the Madness, Bob Marley and Stone Roses ideas, I can actually hear them executed differently.....which always helps.

BTW All this stems from the fact that i heard the Gary Jules cover version of Mad World (Tears for Fears), which I though was fantastic! Will certainly let you know what I choose. Tracks will be available for downloading ;-)
Anything by Kirsty Macoll, especially "As Long as you Hold Me"
